Many trade show organizers are incorporating Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), Near Field Communication (NFC) and Bluetooth® beacons into their events. These are technologies you, an exhibitor should become familiar with and understand how each is used so you can take advantage of the marketing opportunities they provide. RADIO FREQUENCY IDENTIFICATION (RFID) RFID is a passive technology as far as the attendee is concerned. RFID tags are embedded in the attendee’s badge. That tag sends a signal to a reader or antenna placed strategically throughout the exhibit hall. The show organizer can now track the movement of attendees throughout the show floor. Exhibitors can place antennas in their booth at different product stations to track attendee interest by the duration of time spent at each station. They can also use a reader to collect leads via the attendee’s information provided on that RFID tag. PROS: There is no more guesswork when it comes to attendee traffic. You can see exactly how many people moved through the exhibit hall and where they spent their time. The amount of traffic in your aisle is no longer a number based on opinion, but actual minute-by-minute fact. Exhibitors using this technology in their booth can break down interest in product stations based on attendee demographics such as job title, industry, and geography. That can help with targeting your marketing and determining which products are the most popular with attendees. CONS: The cost for the antenna or reader is still relatively high with prices between a couple hundred dollars and a couple thousand dollars depending on strength and system compatibility. The readers and antennas are noticeable and may interfere with your booth design. They also require electricity to operate. NEAR FIELD COMMUNICATION (NFC) NFC is an active technology. An attendee badge is created to act as an NFC device. Exhibitors can embed NFC “tags” into digital signage. The attendee would then touch their badge to that display to activate a download of a brochure or white paper or to register to win a prize. PROS: The cost of the NFC tags is low, as little as ten cents each. It also eliminates the need to ship paper to the show. Unlike handing out jump drives filled with information, the attendee only gets the information that is relevant to them. Because it requires no investment of readers or antennas, it is a more cost-effective option for show organizers. CONS: The show organizer or exhibitor will have to educate the attendee on how the technology works. The show must communicate the value, or it simply will not be used.

In LinkedIn use the Skills and Endorsements option to your business advantage.

LinkedIn uses these skills terms as keywords, in their search algorithms to make sure the people who are searching for those skills, words, and knowledge find YOU.

Do proper settings: Manage how you receive and give endorsements
1.    I want to be endorsed – set Yes
2.    Include me in endorsement suggestions to my connections – set Yes
3.    Show me suggestions to endorse my connections – set Yes

Within a category, Reorder your skills, or select up to three skills to feature in your top skills. Use the PIN button to PIN it. Use the three lines button to adjust other skills, up or down.

Last but not least, do not feel shy to ask friends and contacts, who know your skills, to endorse you for those specific TOP skills.
You can ask me to endorse you on LinkedIn, and if we have interacted and I know your expertise area, I will endorse you.
Review these skills every three months or so. To make sure keywords matches with your current focus areas.  

The digital economy is dynamic. Your projects and passions will come and go, as you evolve in business, so make sure your skills and its sequence matches your current avatar.

If you have multiple twitter handles, I suggest you use TweetDeck.  The product is basically your Twitter feed, but for multiple twitter accounts.

QR codes are similar to barcodes, except that they can hold so much more information.

QRDROID is a cool QR Code Generator.  Use this free tool to generate QR Codes. You can generate QR code for an event, or map location, text, email id, mobile number, website URL or Facebook Page URL or any internet address. 

There are many QR code apps to scan the QR code. The user can scan the QR code and it will instantly decode to show respective content.

Let us say you wish to share a document. Just create on Google doc. Generate QR code using the URL of your Google doc. Instantly a QR code will be generated. Share the QR code, the user can scan a get the document instantly.

How about putting at the end of your presentation, when the scanned user can download your ppt! Steps: Publish your PPT on slideshare.net. Copy the URL. Generate QR code. Insert in the last slide.  Ask the audience to scan.

Do not to play hide and seek on social media. 
Especially on LinkedIn and Facebook, you can restrict the audience. I suggest keep it public. Well, we are talking about marketing and publicity. So what is the point in hiding your profile or posts? Let it be discoverable.

How many video views you have on YouTube? 
Someone will say 1000 views, 10,000 views. 

Actually, it is like asking a question how many miles or kilometer you have driven in your car. And you will take a quick look and say, I have driven 1000 miles. Cool. But what if you have two cars? Or multiple vehicles?

So are uploading your videos on YouTube only? And reporting the views?

Have you uploaded the same video on Facebook Page also? What about views on Facebook? And LinkedIn, or on IGTV?

Well, the point is like in good old days you would perhaps have only one vehicle. Let us say in those days YouTube was the only video platform. You may miss some audience on Facebook or even LinkedIn. In other words, the number of views for a given platform is what is important. Maybe you need to sum up all views from all platforms. Well, some audience could be technically overlapping.

In short, in your social media marketing strategy steps will be as follows:
1.    Regularly create videos, maybe two to ten minutes. Every week.
2.    Upload on various digital platforms
3.    See Insights and fine-tune your strategy every three months.

The biggest difference between traditional marketing and social media is that you get performance reports, called insights, or analytics. Users must look at these reports once in three months. Do not ignore this data. My favorite is ‘Post’ tab in the “Facebook Page insight”. It will tell you which post is doing better than other posts.

Instagram gives insights for each post. I suggest you use tools such as squarelovin. 

This is a desktop tool (part free), to find out which of your post is performing best, which get the most likes and comments. You can also learn more about who your audience is in terms of demographics!  https://squarelovin.com/
How to evaluate social media marketing? 
There is a change in the way you may evaluate social media marketing. Till now it was mostly measured by numbers of LIKE on Facebook Page, or Numbers of subscribers on YouTube channel, numbers of followers on Instagram and Pinterest, LinkedIn Page and so on. This is one of the ways to assess performance.

  • It is a myth that more Likes or more followers mean successful social media marketing. You need to focus on influencers. Your audience who can help engagement in your posts, who can influence other buyers of your products or services.


Think of viral marketing, think of how influencers can help you spread your brand name. So the change is the number of followers and number of influencers these are two different kinds of people. Apart from total Likes as a number, check who they are. Who can influence your buyers? Look for a number of influencers count. We now place a higher value on the relevance and context of collaboration.

SEO or Search Engine OptimizationStay clear of any SEO Professional who guarantees to get you a number one ranking on all search engines for your keywords or claims they possess the SEO RANKING SECRET. Unfortunately, no company can make this guarantee. Even if there were, a remote possibility of this becoming a reality, their method of execution will most likely be utilizing unethical SEO techniques.

Ultimately, this will blacklist your domain and you will find yourself in a position of spending additional monies to attempting to remove your domain from being blacklisted.


HashtagsYou must write hashtags in the post. The main content of the post is read by humans. Hashtags are read by the machine that is the robot. Use few hashtags; say five to ten, on Tweeter even less. I see some posts full of hashtags sometimes twenty or even more. That is NOT cool. Every digital platform has its own search engine, and use spiders to index your posts.

  • In the description, write sentences that describe what the post is about for humans, and then use hashtags to help the search engine to find the content and show it to the user who is searching for your product or services.
  • You may combine two or three words without space for letting the search engine know more about your post.


Whom to follow on Instagram?As an entrepreneur, you come across challenges. Do you experience a low point? You need motivation. Here are Instagram accounts you may follow for inspiration or find similar that will motivate you:Follow Daymond John (@thesharkdaymond) on Instagram. He already has 622K followers.
  • Follow Jasmine Star. Business Strategist, Photographer, She helps entrepreneurs grow social platforms. She has 256K followers.
  • Follow HoneyBook. Everything you need to turn your passion into a thriving business. 44K Followers.

Let us talk about the comments.

You must participate in other people posts. Most users only post and hope for engagement by others. That is OK. But how about you also engaging with others posts. Writing a thoughtful comment is also a good idea. You will also get noticed. Indirectly you are also doing your own publicity. Also, respond to the negative comment. Post only about your business is not a good idea. Share a link of other websites, for example, news pertaining to your profession or your industry.

Combine your online marketing with offline marketing. Depending only on social media or depending only on traditional marketing is not enough. You need to do both.

Do you know Instagram has added a new shopping icon?There is a new way to Shop on Instagram. Shopping option is now available in Stories as well as in Explore. So expect to see shopping bag icon on the product picture that will take you to the website that has a payment gateway, so that you can actually purchase. Ha ha ha, this reminds me of the old style a mail-order catalog!

  • If you are reviewing your social media marketing strategy, I suggest you include Facebook, YouTube and if your audience is younger generation, I mean age 18 to 24, then, Instagram. If you are a B2B company then LinkedIn is a must.
  • It is observed that 90% of LinkedIn users also use Facebook.


PinterestPinterest is a collection of various hyperlinks taking users to various online presences. Pinterest is a great site for sharing. Whether you use Pinterest or not, others are using actively, and they are pinning. It is important to know that even if you do not pin your own content on Pinterest, other users can.So, if you use yourself, you will have more understanding of Pinterest. If you understand how the platform works, and actively pin your content yourself.Tell your webmaster to make sure your website is Pinterest friendly. It is important to have pictures on your site and blog so that others can pin it.YouTube videos, Slideshare, Flickr, and Instagram are all Pinterest friendly digital platforms already.

Pinterest limits the description box text to 500 characters and maximum of twenty hashtags can be used. So construct your content accordingly.
